In 2002, Technology Goddesses™ was founded by Cora Carmody as an action to help reduce the disparity between women and men in both Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

  • To help girls acquire technology skills in the collaborative fashion they prefer, while helping to spark and sustain their interest through the years.
  • To sustain interest and involvement in technology from an early age; most programs are designed to interest high school and college-aged women
  • To communicate the societal value of technology
  • To imbue a sense of belonging and technical confidence
  • To communicate the richness, variety, & fulfillment of IT careers

Technology Goddesses not only provides amazing opportunities during the summer but year round. My children have both grown up participating in camp and Technology Goddesses events and I cannot convey how much we appreciate the environment and encouragement of Cora and all the Technology Goddesses volunteers and participants. In 2016 my niece joined us from New York for her first year at camp. She is featured in the photo above.

It is super exciting to share scouting and technology and Technology Goddess Camp provides a perfect setting. We’ll be back for years to come!

In addition to camp Technology Goddesses provides field trips and special events hosted by leaders in technology. My daughter, Sam “Crash”, and I attended the JPL tour

in 2014 and were thrilled to be given a private tour with featured speakers and hands on activities. Above you’ll see a picture of Crash during a tour of the JPL Machine Lab.

Technology Goddess Day camp is the one week of the summer that my children and I look forward to doing together as a family every year. I started volunteering at Technology Goddesses Day Camp because my daughter was a camper and I learned that my twin boys could attend as a “children of a volunteer”. It is an incredible week filled with everything STEAM. Wombat our Director made “STEAM” cool long before it was a buzzword! The camp activities and crafts change as technology changes.

My children and I have been exposed to some of the most incredible games, activities, computer programs, apps, and more over the years. At camp, I have been in charge of a unit, been a “Girl Friday”, helped with snacks and food, helped with crafts, and one year I even worked as the Acting Craft Director. Wombat allows every person adult or youth to contribute in ways that they can really show their skills and their value. She has created a fantastic place for girls (and boys) to take risks, learn and have fun. During the year, Wombat has done program weekends, Goddess field trips, and more.

Several summers, I had what the camp staff nicknamed the “clown car”. I had encouraged so many girls to go to camp with us that when we arrived at camp, it seemed like children just kept pouring out of my van. I think the best part is how my children grew up at camp. My daughter started out in a unit as a young camper and moved into numerous leadership roles over the years that were all age appropriate and led to more challenging positions as she grew. Girl Scouts prides themselves on programs that are Girl Led with Girl progression but at Technology Goddess camp, Wombat has created an ideal situation for those ideas to be seen. My daughter earned her Silver Award with Wombat’s guidance and my daughter’s many leadership roles culminated in her becoming the Assistant Lab Director in her last summer as a Girl Scout youth. My boys have also progressed from campers through to leadership roles and felt that this camp was so valuable they wanted to give back. They each chose to do their Eagle Projects to support Technology Goddess Camp’s Sphero robot program. I cannot imagine what our summer’s would have been like without Technology Goddesses.
